German-inspired Reuben

- • 4 slices pumpernickel bread. shopping list
- • 1/3 cup mayonnaise. shopping list
- • 2 tablespoons ketchup. shopping list
- • 1 small pickle, minced. shopping list
- • 4 ounces Westphalian ham. shopping list
- • 1/2 cup sauerkraut, drained and patted dry. shopping list
- • 2 slices Tilsiter cheese. Can sub Gouda if necessary. shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Preheat broiler. Toast the bread to your liking.
- 2. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and pickle. Spread one side of each bread slice with the mayonnaise blend.
- 3. Pile ham on one slice of bread, and cover with the sauerkraut. Top with the cheese.
- 4. Broil open faced until the cheese melts. Top with the other slice of toasted bread.
- 5. Slice on the diagonal and serve.
- A good Pilsner is the only thing to wash a Ruben down with.
