Simple Traditional Scottish Mince And Tatties

- 2tbsp Sunflower/Vegetable Oil shopping list
- 45g/1½oz Streaky bacon - chopped shopping list
- 300g/10oz beef Mince (Ground beef) shopping list
- 1 large Onion - chopped shopping list
- 1¼pts/675ml beef Gravy Stock (Gravy Granules/Powder/Stock Pot) shopping list
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper shopping list
- Potatoes - peeled, cooked, well drained, dried out a little, seasoned and mashed with some butter and milk to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oil in a large pot/pan, add bacon and cook gently for 3 to 4 minutes until golden but not crispy;
- Add the onion, stir well and cook, stirring occasionally, on a gentle heat for some 5 minutes or so until softened a bit;
- Add the mince and brown for some 4 to 5 minutes or so, stirring and breaking down continuously, until there are no lumps;
- Add the gravy stock, and season with pepper, stirring continuously to mix in well;
- Bring to boil and then simmer on a low heat, stirring occasionally for some 30 minutes or so or until the gravy has thickened to desired consistency;
- Taste for seasoning and serve with the mash.
