Ingredients
  • 1-pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • Dash pepper
  • 1 (1-pound) can cut green beans, drained (OR: 1/2-pound green beans, cooked and drained)
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  • 5 medium potatoes, cooked*
  • ½ cup warm milk*
  • 1 beaten egg

Directions
  1. Lightly brown meat; add onion, cook till just tender. Add seasonings, beans and soup; pour into greased 1½-quart casserole. Mash hot potatoes; add milk and egg. Season. Drop in mounds over meat. (If desired, sprinkle with ½ cup shredded process cheese.) Bake at 350° F for 25 to 30 minutes. Serves 6.
  2. * = Omit potato mounds and use Biscuit Topper. Prepare one recipe for Baking Powder Biscuits:
  3. INGREDIENTS:
  4. * 2 cups all-purpose flour
  5. * 3 teaspoons baking powder
  6. * ½ teaspoon salt
  7. * ¼ cup shortening
  8. * 2/3 to ¾ cup milk
  9. DIRECTIONS:
  10. Cut shortening into sifted dry ingredients till like coarse crumbs. Make a well; add milk at once. Stir quickly with fork only till dough follows fork around bowl. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. (Dough should be soft.) Knead gently with heel of hand 10 or 12 strokes (½ minutes). This makes tall plump biscuits. Roll or pat dough ½-inch thick. Dip biscuit cutter in flour, then cut dough straight down - no twisting. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in very hot oven at 450° F for 12 to 15 minutes. Heat casserole mixture till bubbling; pour into casserole; top mixture with biscuits. Bake at 425° F for 15 to 20 minutes.
