How to make it

  • Brown the onions in the clarified butter til golden.
  • Add the garlic, caraway, paprika, bay leaf , vineger and tomato paste. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add the beef and broth with just enough water to barely cover.
  • Bring to a boil, cover tightly, reduce the heat to very low and let simmer for 4 hours. Check the water level after two hours. Top off with boiling water if it looks too low. The onions will break down to make a delicious richly flavored sauce.
