Ingredients
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted*
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions
  1. Cream together shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla extract. Stir in peanut butter. Sift dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture.
  2. Drop by rounded teaspoons on ungreased cookie sheet. Press with back of floured fork to make crisscross.
  3. Bake in moderate oven (350° F) about 10 minutes. makes about 5 dozen cookies.
  4. * = For richer cookies, use 2 cups of flour.
