How to make it

  • In a large crock pot, on high, melt lard.
  • Heat the lard until small bubbles begin to appear.
  • Do NOT allow the lard to boil.
  • Remove the Lard (fat) from the heat source.
  • In an old pitcher, or other heat proof (plastic/...) container, pour in the distilled water.
  • ~ ~ ~While waiting for the Lard to Melt~ ~ ~
  • Add the lye slowly to the distilled water.
  • NEVER add water to the lye, ALWAYS add lye to the water.
  • When the temperature of the lye-water mixture reaches 120-ish, add the sugar to this lye water mixture.
  • ~ ~ ~When Both Lye Water and Lard are Ready~ ~ ~
  • Slowly pour the Distilled Water and Lye mixture into the warm melted Lard!
  • With a large heat resistance plastic, silicone, or wooden spoon, Mix Well.
  • Stir in your choice of Essential Oil(s) and the Aloe Vera Juice.
  • Simmer over a medium-low heat for around 30 minutes, stirring often.
  • Pour into your prepared mold.
  • If you want to use a cake pan that you have lined with parchment, I am sure that would work as well.
  • Allow to cool over night, or as long as needed until set.
  • This could take a few days. Somewhere around 3 the original recipe said.
  • Remove from mold.
  • Slice into even slices.
  • Place bars onto parchment lined cooking sheet.
  • Allow to cure in a draft free area for 4 to 6 weeks!
