Hungarian Goulash

- 2 teaspoon butter or lard shopping list
- 2 medium onions shopping list
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds shopping list
- 2 tablespoon paprika shopping list
- 1 ½ Ib stewing beef trimmed and cut into 1″ cubes shopping list
- ¼ cup flour shopping list
- 2 cups beef broth or water shopping list
- 1 cup canned diced tomatoes shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- ¼ teaspoon pepper shopping list
- 1 ½ cup carrots, optional shopping list
- 3 cups potatoes, optional shopping list
How to make it
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Add the onions and cook them until they are transparent. Stir in the caraway and paprika until combined.
- In a bowl, coat the beef with the flour. Add beef to the saucepan and brown it for about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the broth, tomatoes, salt and pepper, and the carrots and potatoes if using.
- Stir and bring to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to a simmer; cook for 1-2 hours or until tender.
