- 1/2 cup brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup lard shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups molasses shopping list
- 1 1/2 baking soda shopping list
- 2 1/2 cups flour shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon shopping list
- 1/2 tsp cloves shopping list
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg shopping list
- 2 tsp ginger shopping list
- 1 cup hot water shopping list
How to make it
- (This recipe dates back to 1850. Mix in a single bowl with a large spoon.)
- Cream sugar, lard, and butter, eggs, and molasses.
- Mix spices in hot water.
- Sift together flour and baking soda, add alternatively with spice water and mix well.
- Bake in a large (9x13") pan in moderate (350°F) oven until broom straw comes out clean.
- Serve warm with whipped cream.
