How to make it

  • First, in Dutch oven, cook carrots, potatoes, celery and onion in enough water to cover by an inch until vegetables are almost tender.
  • Add ham and cook until potatoes are tender.
  • Add yellow beans (you should have more beans than any other vegetable.)
  • Add vinegar to taste. The broth should be on the "sour" side.
  • Make a slurry of flour and water.
  • Add enough slurry to broth to thicken to taste.
  • Serve as a soup with crusty bread.
