Beef In Burgundy Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3lb topside steak
  • 2tbsp oil
  • 1tsp sugar
  • 1lb mushrooms
  • 2tblsp flour
  • 2,3 cups water
  • 2 beef stock cubes
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1tblsp butter
  • 12 medium onions sliced
  • 1glove garlic crushed
  • 2 rashers bacon chopped
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 bay leaf
  • pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Trim and cut meat into cubes.Brown about a 1/4 at a time in butter and oil.
  2. Place in heavy fry pan or casserole
  3. Brown onions in remaining fat. Add sugar,garlic mushrooms and bacon.
  4. Cook slowly until tender. Remove and set aside. Stir flour into pan.Return pan to heat and brow flour.Gradually add wine,stir well until sauce thickens
  5. Place sauce,water,stock cubes and bay leaf in a pan with meat bake in oven at 150 c.
  6. Cook for about 2 hrs then add onions,mushrooms and bacon and cook for 20,30 mins
  7. Add an extra cup of water during cooking if needed.add seasoning and thicken if needed
  8. Serve with tossed green salad and boiled rice
