Shrimp In Tamarind Soup Sinigang Na Hipon Recipe

Ingredients
  • 15 pcs of medium or big shrimp or prawn
  • 1 big pack of Knorr Tamarind Soup base (Knoor Sinigang sa Sampalok)*
  • 1 big tomato, sliced evenly into inch long strips
  • 1 big onion, chopped evenly
  • 3 pcs small okra
  • 3 pcs eggplant, sliced into 4 pieces
  • 1 small radish, sliced into round pieces
  • 1 green chili or siling haba
  • 6 to 8 cups of water
  • Fish Sauce (Patis) and pepper to taste
  • -----
  • *Alternately, if you don't have Knorr Tamarind Soup base, you can use about 12-15 pieces of freshly squeezed philippine lemon or calamansi as a substitute

Directions
  1. In a pot, put in water, onions and tomato. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add in shrimp, Knorr tamarind soup base.
  3. Stir for about 2 minutes, then add the other vegetables.
  4. Add pepper and patis or fish sauce for flavor.
  5. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Yum! I use mustard greens and kangkong in my sinigang!


I love the taste of sinigang na hipon. Most of people I know even foreigners love the sour taste of sinigang. I tried the Pinakbet I found on www.filipino-foods.com. My friends love it! Thanks for this post!
