Date Bread With Caramelsauce

- Bread: shopping list
- 10 ml bicarbonate of soda (2 teaspoons) shopping list
- 500 ml dates, finely chopped (300 g) (2 cups) shopping list
- 500 ml boiling water (2 cups) shopping list
- 500 ml very fine white sugar (2 cups) shopping list
- 150 ml margarine 9(1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons) shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 750 ml cake flour (3 cups) shopping list
- 10 ml baking soda (2 teaspoons) shopping list
- pinch of salt shopping list
- 10 ml vanilla essence (2 teaspoons) shopping list
- Sauce: shopping list
- 250 ml soft brown sugar (1 cup) shopping list
- 250 ml milk (1 cup) shopping list
- 100 ml margarine (1/2 cup) shopping list
- 50 ml brandy (1/4 cup) shopping list
How to make it
- Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over dates.
- Pour in the boiling water.
- Mix and let stand.
- Beat the margarine and sugar well.
- Beat the eggs into the sugar mixture.
- Mix dry ingredients.
- Sift the dry ingredients over sugar mixture.
- Put in the vanilla.
- Mix the date mixture in.
- Mix well together.
- Bake in an oven of 180 degrees C (360 degrees /f)for 60 minutes.
- Syrup.
- Bring everything to the boil for 5 minutes.
- Pour in Brandy.
- Turn bread out on a plate.
- Pour syrup over.
- Serve when it has cooled down.
