EKMEK TATLISI Turkish Sweet

- 200 GRAMS (almost half pounds) bread (white part only,crust removed,should be a little stale) shopping list
- 1 and 2/3 cups milk (scalded and cooled completely) shopping list
- 3 Tablespoons margarine-melted shopping list
- 3 eggs (beaten together with a fork) shopping list
- 1 Tablespoon white sugar shopping list
- FOR SYRUP: shopping list
- 9 ounces sugar shopping list
- 1 cup plus 1 Tablespoon water shopping list
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice shopping list
How to make it
- PREPARATION:
- Crumble white parts of the bread in a deep bowl.
- Pour in milk mix together with hands. Leave it aside for 30 minutes for the bread to soak the liquid.
- After half an hour drain any excess milk completely, mix in melted margarine, 1 Tablespoon sugar and beaten eggs. Mix by hand thoroughly.
- Butter a deep sided baking dish and pour in the mixture (should be a little more than half an inch thick)
- Bake in a preheated oven 350 degrees fahrenheit for about 40 minutes until the top is golden color.
- NOTE: if the top of the mixture puffs irregularly just make a couple cuts with an edge of a knife)
- FOR SYRUP:
- Heat all the ingredients for the syrup, bring to a boil.
- When you take out the baked hot bread from the oven, pour the hot syrup over.
- Let it stand until its completely cool and the syrup is mostly absorbed.
- Cut in diagonal shapes and serve it with ice cream, chopped walnuts,chopped toasted hazelnuts, cream, or coconut flakes.
