How to make it

  • PREPARATION:
  • Crumble white parts of the bread in a deep bowl.
  • Pour in milk mix together with hands. Leave it aside for 30 minutes for the bread to soak the liquid.
  • After half an hour drain any excess milk completely, mix in melted margarine, 1 Tablespoon sugar and beaten eggs. Mix by hand thoroughly.
  • Butter a deep sided baking dish and pour in the mixture (should be a little more than half an inch thick)
  • Bake in a preheated oven 350 degrees fahrenheit for about 40 minutes until the top is golden color.
  • NOTE: if the top of the mixture puffs irregularly just make a couple cuts with an edge of a knife)
  • FOR SYRUP:
  • Heat all the ingredients for the syrup, bring to a boil.
  • When you take out the baked hot bread from the oven, pour the hot syrup over.
  • Let it stand until its completely cool and the syrup is mostly absorbed.
  • Cut in diagonal shapes and serve it with ice cream, chopped walnuts,chopped toasted hazelnuts, cream, or coconut flakes.
