an interesting varation on bread pudding.

Ingredients
  • 200 GRAMS (almost half pounds) bread (white part only,crust removed,should be a little stale)
  • 1 and 2/3 cups milk (scalded and cooled completely)
  • 3 Tablespoons margarine-melted
  • 3 eggs (beaten together with a fork)
  • 1 Tablespoon white sugar
  • FOR SYRUP:
  • 9 ounces sugar
  • 1 cup plus 1 Tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions
  1. PREPARATION:
  2. Crumble white parts of the bread in a deep bowl.
  3. Pour in milk mix together with hands. Leave it aside for 30 minutes for the bread to soak the liquid.
  4. After half an hour drain any excess milk completely, mix in melted margarine, 1 Tablespoon sugar and beaten eggs. Mix by hand thoroughly.
  5. Butter a deep sided baking dish and pour in the mixture (should be a little more than half an inch thick)
  6. Bake in a preheated oven 350 degrees fahrenheit for about 40 minutes until the top is golden color.
  7. NOTE: if the top of the mixture puffs irregularly just make a couple cuts with an edge of a knife)
  8. FOR SYRUP:
  9. Heat all the ingredients for the syrup, bring to a boil.
  10. When you take out the baked hot bread from the oven, pour the hot syrup over.
  11. Let it stand until its completely cool and the syrup is mostly absorbed.
  12. Cut in diagonal shapes and serve it with ice cream, chopped walnuts,chopped toasted hazelnuts, cream, or coconut flakes.
  13. Enjoy!
