How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Whisk the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt).
  • Whip butter and sugar with a hand-held mixer until fluffy (about 4 minutes).
  • Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Slowly beat in the dry ingredients (in two additions).
  • When the dough gets formed, scoop the dough into a ball (about 1 inch) and place them about two inches apart on the baking sheets.
  • Press a thumbprint into the center of each ball, about one half inch deep.
  • Fill each indentation with jelly or fruit preserves.
  • Bake cookies about 15 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  • Cool cookies on the baking sheets.
  • **dust some powdered sugar on top, you can also roll the dough balls with colored sugars (red & green) before pressing thumbprint into the ball to make it look more festive
