Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks) Room Temperature/softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup of any jam or fruit preserves (raspberry, cherry, strawberry, peach)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Whisk the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt).
  4. Whip butter and sugar with a hand-held mixer until fluffy (about 4 minutes).
  5. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  6. Slowly beat in the dry ingredients (in two additions).
  7. When the dough gets formed, scoop the dough into a ball (about 1 inch) and place them about two inches apart on the baking sheets.
  8. Press a thumbprint into the center of each ball, about one half inch deep.
  9. Fill each indentation with jelly or fruit preserves.
  10. Bake cookies about 15 minutes or until the edges are golden.
  11. Cool cookies on the baking sheets.
  12. **dust some powdered sugar on top, you can also roll the dough balls with colored sugars (red & green) before pressing thumbprint into the ball to make it look more festive
