Having a great recipe for a good Italian dish is a must...this is mine:) this is one of the very first meals I started with and it is still a favorite. The sauce is great to freeze and pull out when needed for anyother Italian dish

Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 7oz can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 8oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 pkg lasagna noodles (you won't need the whole pkg but I always cook extra noodles in case some break)
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup parm cheese
  • 1 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley (I like Italian parsley)
  • 1 pkg sliced mozz cheese

Directions
  1. cook meat, onion and garlic. drain excess grease
  2. stir in tomato ingredients, basil, oregano, salt and pepper
  3. bring to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes
  4. while sauce is simmering, cook noodles in large pot of water with salt.
  5. cook until al dente, drain
  6. for filling, combine the egg, ricotta cheese, 1/4 cup of the parm cheese and the parsley
  7. layer half the cooked noodles in a casserole dish
  8. spread with 1/2 the filling and 1/2 the meat sauce.
  9. top with 1/2 the mozz cheese slices and repeat layers
  10. sprinkle top with the remaining parm cheese
  11. bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes or until top is bubbly and golden brown
