Chicken and Dressing Casserole

- 1 fryer chicken, stewed and torn into pieces, skinned and salted shopping list
- 4 cups cornbread (recipe to follow) shopping list
- 1 stick margarine shopping list
- 1 teaspoon celery seed shopping list
- 1 carton sour cream shopping list
- 1 teaspoon black pepper shopping list
- 1 large onion shopping list
- 1 teaspoon sage shopping list
- 1 can mushroom soup shopping list
- 4 cups chicken broth shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350*F.
- Melt margarine and combine all ingredients, except cornbread.
- Put 2 cups corn bread in bottom of a large casserole dish. Add chicken mixture next, then add remaining bread crumbs. Pour 3-4 cups broth over mixture.
- Bake for 1 hour.
- Cornbread:
- 1 cup self-rising cornmeal
- 1/2 cup self-rising flour
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour batter into a greased shallow baking dish. Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.
- To serve, cut into desired squares and serve with butter.
- Yield: 6 to 8 servings
