How to make it

  • Brown on med-high sausage pieces in pan 4-5 minutes and place in a dish to the side.
  • Add 1 tbsp butter to the pan and cook saute onions and apples for 4-5 minutes, remove and place with the sausage.
  • Add 1 tbsp butter to the pan and cook the frozen hash browns 5-10 minutes until brown.
  • Mix the vinegar, sugar, and celery seed in a small bowl and pour over the sausage, apples and onions.
  • Add back the sausage, apples and onions to the pan of hash browns and heat through for 2-3 minutes longer.
  • Serve.

    I made this tonight & it was delicious. It went a little haywire - I could've SWORN I had frozen hash browns! So there I was, grating potatoes ... which explains why first the sausage, and then the onions and apples got a little scorched (no, caramelized, right?). But even with all that everybody loved it. So I can just imagine how good it is when everything goes as planned! Oh, and I didn't have celery seed, so I used celery salt & it still tasted great. Got my 5 - it *wasn't* perfect, but that was my fault, not the recipe.
