Chewy Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 2 tbsp. wter
  • 4 bars (8 oz. box) semi sweet chocolate baking bars, broken into pieces
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Grease 13x9 inch baking pan
  3. Microwave sugar, butter and water in large, microwave safe bowl on high for 3 minutes or until mixture boils, stirring once
  4. Add baking bars; stir until melted
  5. Add eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition
  6. Stir in vanilla extract
  7. Add flour, baking soda and salt; stir well
  8. Stir in nuts
  9. Pour into prepared baking pan
  10. Bake for 16-20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky
  11. Cool completely in pan on wire rack
  12. Cut into bars
  13. ***For saucepan method:
  14. Heat sugar, butter and water in medium saucepan jut to boiling, stirring constantly
  15. Remove from heat
  16. Add baking bars; stir until melted
  17. Proceed as above
