Cornmeal Gravy Recipe

Cornmeal Gravy Recipe
This thick gravy is great over fried potatoes. It is one of my favorite comfort foods! Make sure you stir constantly so it doesn't stick to the pan.

Ingredients
  • 4 1/2 TBS cooking oil
  • 1/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk

Directions
  1. Heat oil.
  2. Add cornmeal and salt.
  3. Stir constantly until cornmeal has browned.
  4. *Important!* Stirring constantly will prevent cornmeal from sticking to pan and burning.
  5. When cornmeal is brown, stir in milk.
  6. Keep stirring until gravy starts to thicken.
  7. Turn off heat. Gravy will thicken more as it cools a bit.
  8. Serve over fried potatoes. YUM!

This is the only gravy I want on my biscuits, try browning 1/2-1lb crumbled pork sausage in a heavy fry pan. drain some grease but leave enough to brown the cornmeal.
After cornmeal/sausage mixture is browned cook as directed above adding salt/pepper to taste. Make it alittle thin as it will get thicker as it cools.

Hey cookincoach, thanks for the suggestion! Your version sounds great for B&G. =)
