Zesty Pork Pastry
From labelledames 17 years agoIngredients
- 1.5 lbs ground up lean pork shopping list
- 1 lg potato shopping list
- 1 large minced onion shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper shopping list
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves shopping list
- 1 pinch ground allspice shopping list
- 1/2 C water shopping list
- 1 9 inch double crust recipe pastry for deep dish pie shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/4 tsp paprika shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat your oven too 400 degrees Fahrenheit (205 degrees Celsius). Place potato on cooking sheet on center rack of oven and bake until thoroughly cooked (this will take between 30 to 45 minutes) Allow the potato to cool, and then peel off the skin. Mash the potato.
- In a large sized frying pan, combine water, seasoning spices, onion, ground pork and the mashed potato. Allow this mixture to simmer for around one hour. Your mixture should have a thicker and more substantial consistency.
- Set this mixture aside for later
- To prepare your pastry shell, evenly coat your deep-dish pie plate with the crust. With a large spoon, add in mixture from the frying pan. Tap the pan gently on a countertop to ensure even spreading of the mixture. Add the pastry crown to the top of your mixture, folding up and texturing the edges, if you desire.
- Paint with whipped egg and add a dash of paprika for extra gloss and colour. Gently slit a steam vent in the top crust. Pie should bake for about 50 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 Degrees Celsius). If edges begin to darken too quickly, cover your pie with a foil strip.
- Remove from oven, slice, and serve steaming!
