How to make it

  • MERINGUE SHELL
  • Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until foamy. Add sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Continue beating until the mixture makes very stiff peaks.
  • Fold in vanilla and nuts. Spoon into lightly greased pie pan & work up the sides. Bake in oven at 300 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • CHOCOLATE CREAM MIXTURE
  • Stir chocolate in water over low heat until melted. Cool until thickened. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
  • Whip cream (or make Dream Whip) and fold in chocolate mixture. Pile into pie shell and chill in refrigerator for two hours.
