How to make it

  • Combine first five ingredients in large bowl
  • Mix well
  • Divide into 3 balls of dough
  • Roll each out on a well floured board
  • Put pats of butter all over the dough, about 1/2 stick per roll
  • Sprinkle with sugar generously over the roll
  • Roll up like a jelly roll pinching sides together well as you roll up
  • Place in baking dish
  • Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes
  • Remove from oven, cut into serving portions, serve with hot vanilla sauce
  • VANILLA SAUCE
  • Make while rolls are cooking
  • Combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan, whisking to combine
  • Cook until it thickens slightly, stirring constantly
  • Spoon over hot butter rolls

    It is an old recipe that my grandmother and my mother used to make.They have passed on and i never thought that i would ever see it again.The way they would make it was they would roll the three balls of dough long and coat with butter and sugar.They would then twist it like you do when you make bread and they used vanilla,butter and sugar just like this recipe.It is so delicious.
