How to make it

  • Mix all ingredients except cream.
  • Simmer 1 hour.
  • Heat cream in double boiler.
  • Add ceram to tomato mixture (not reverse)

    I just made this soup following your recipe and when we tasted it something caused a burning sensation on our tongues (not from the temperature of the soup)...we can't figure it out because none of the ingredients is a spicy ingredient. Do you have any idea what it could be? We did not add anything or modify the recipe in any way. It's perplexing :(

    Figured it out (smacks self upside head) ... husband used diced tomatoes with JALAPENOS! LOL

    I found a new recipe on CopyCat Recipes that I tried. It is supposed to have come from the original owner of the 4B's Restaurant, so I will post it when I get the time. It did taste a lot better than this recipe that I posted but it did still have baking soda in it.

    4B's, as a chain, is no longer. They went out of business a few years ago and the Montana locations are all gone. I believe there is still one in Spokane in the valley, and maybe one still in NM. The official recipe lives on at Crossroads Cafe just outside of Missoula. THat location used to be a 4Bs and the name was just changed. The menu is the same, as is the service.     I used to be a graveyard cook for Four b's so I had to prep the soup for the following day, up until they were bought out by star buffet. Now, I'm not going to knock this recipe because I haven't tried making it, but I will tell you that the ingredients aren't right. First off, there never was any butter in the soup, it called for half and half or coffee creamer if you'd rather, and whipping cream. The recipe that we went off of never did call for baking soda, although from some of the other responses that I've read are right, it would cut back on the acidic traits of the tomatoes, but at the same time it would add a slight bitter taste to the soup at the same time. Now, I still have people on the "inside" beings how Star Buffet bought the rights to the recipe, I will see if somebody will leak out the full thing to me, and I will then pass it on to everybody else out there in the world.
