How to make it

  • Fill a large pot with 5 liters of cold water. (make sure you have at least 2 more liters available)
  • Add 2.5 lbs of beef (preferably with bones)
  • Add 2 large whole carrots
  • Add 1 medium to large whole onion
  • Clean the insides of one green pepper and add into pot
  • Put pot on stove on highest.
  • As the water starts to warm up, start removing the meat's dirt from surface until the water starts to boil. Make sure the water never boils hard, reduce the heat and cover to have it lighly boiling for 2 hours.
  • In the mean time, you'll need to fry/stew the following:

    My dad was Ukranian, he used to make the most wonderful Borstch.
    Always meaty bones went in, but no green pepper.
    Loved it when the pots took on a reddish colour.
    This sounds very similar, far better, i think than Russian Borstch.
    I like it chunky, not wizzed up.
