My husbands grandmother gave me this recipe because it was the one dessert my mom could eat. When I go home I have to make this everyday. It lasts about 20 min in my house and my moms. THANKS MEMA!!!!!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 2 cups plus 1/2 cup sugar
  • lemon or orange zest
  • one vanilla bean

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Take 2 cups sugar place in med. sauce pan. Cook over med heat till dissolves and turns light brown in color. STIRRING THE ENTIRE TIME!!! *** CAREFUL VERY VERY VERY HOT!!!***** Once sugar is light in color coat ramekins or Charlet mold with burnt sugar;
  3. Add wet ingredients along with scraped vanilla, mix. Add sugar and mix
  4. Strain liquid with small meshed strainer.
  5. Add zest to mixture and pour into ramekins or Charlet
  6. Bake in water bath for 35 min or till knife inserted into center comes out clean.
  7. COOL completely then flip out Creme Carmel onto servings plates.
