From erisgrrrl 16 years agoIngredients
- All ingredients are approximate b/c I don't measure- especially when I'm creating something new! shopping list
- 1T honey shopping list
- 1T soy sauce shopping list
- 1/2c water shopping list
- 2 large chunks homemade seitan (or about 1.5 packages premade seitan) cut into nugget size pieces shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- about 1/2c flour (I used glutinous rice flour but you can use pretty much anything including tempura) shopping list
- 2c honey panko (the kind we buy comes in a pink bag) shopping list
- enough oil to stand in the bottom of your pan for frying (around 2c) shopping list
How to make it
- Mix honey, soy sauce and water and pour into a pan along with the seitan chunks.
- Simmer while you prep the rest of the ingredients to infuse the honey flavor into the seitan and help de-rubberize it.
- Pour your flour and panko into separate bowls/pie plates and beat the egg in a bowl/pie plate.
- Pull your seitan outta the honey broth and stick it in the freezer for a few minutes to cool it off so you can handle it easily.
- Get your oil heating so that it's crazy hot and ready to fry when you are.
- Dredge each seitan nugget in flour then dip in egg and into the panko.
- Press the panko firmly into the seitan and sit aside until the oil is ready.
- Drop 8-10 chunks at a time into the oil and let them get nice and brown before turning them over.
- Drain on papertowel or a cooling rack after the other side browns.
- Serve warm.
- These are still pretty tastie once they cool off but are MUCH better hot!
