How to make it

  • Place flour and 1 tsp.salt and lard in mixing bowl;
  • work lard into flour with pastry blender.
  • Add suet; work in thoroughly.
  • Add enough water to make a dough a little more moist than pastry.
  • Divide dough into 4 parts; roll out each piece on a floured surface into a round shape the size of a dinner plate.
  • Mix the steak and pork.
  • Place 1/2 in layer of potatoes on 1/2 of each piece of dough;
  • season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add thin layer of turnips,then thin layer of onions.
  • cover with 1/4 of the steak mixture;
  • place 1 1/2 tbsp.butter on top of each.
  • Fold dough over filled portion;seal edge with a fork.
  • make a 1 in. slit on top of each pastry.
  • Place pastries on a cookie sheet.
  • Bake in a preheated 400*F oven for 1 hr. or until done and light brown and bubbly.
