Ingredients
  • 3c.flour
  • salt
  • 1/4 c. lard
  • 1 c. finely ground suet
  • 6-7 tbsp.cold water
  • 1 lb.finely diced flank or round steak
  • 1/2 lb. finely diced pork
  • finely chopped potatoes
  • pepper
  • sliced turnips
  • chopped onions
  • 6 tbsp.butter

Directions
  1. Place flour and 1 tsp.salt and lard in mixing bowl;
  2. work lard into flour with pastry blender.
  3. Add suet; work in thoroughly.
  4. Add enough water to make a dough a little more moist than pastry.
  5. Divide dough into 4 parts; roll out each piece on a floured surface into a round shape the size of a dinner plate.
  6. Mix the steak and pork.
  7. Place 1/2 in layer of potatoes on 1/2 of each piece of dough;
  8. season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Add thin layer of turnips,then thin layer of onions.
  10. cover with 1/4 of the steak mixture;
  11. place 1 1/2 tbsp.butter on top of each.
  12. Fold dough over filled portion;seal edge with a fork.
  13. make a 1 in. slit on top of each pastry.
  14. Place pastries on a cookie sheet.
  15. Bake in a preheated 400*F oven for 1 hr. or until done and light brown and bubbly.
