Herbed Beef Stew Recipe
This stew is the best I have tasted. It has a wonderful flavor not bland like many beef stews. We love it with garlic biscuits and a green salad for a perfect evening meal.

Ingredients
  • 6 Tbls all purpose flour, divided
  • 1 ts paprike
  • 1/4 ts pepper
  • 1 1/2 lbs beef stew cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 Tbls canola oil
  • 2 Cups water
  • 3 Tbls tomato paste
  • 2 ts beef bouillon granules
  • 2 ts dried basil, divided
  • 2 ts dried thyme, divided
  • 1 ts garlic powder, divided
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 cups diced potatoes
  • 3 cups quartered peeled small onions
  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 2 Tbls minced fresh parsley
  • 1/4 ts salt
  • 1/4 cup water

Directions
  1. Combine 4 Tbls flour, paprika and pepper into a plastic bag.
  2. Add beef a few pieces at a time and shake to coat.
  3. In a dutch oven brown beef in oil over medium heat.
  4. Add the water, tomato paste, bouillon, 1 1/2 ts basil, 3/4 ts thyme, 3/4 ts garlic powder and the bay leaves.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours till meat almost tender.
  7. Add the potatoes, onions and carrots.
  8. Cover and simmer 30 minutes longer or until the meat and vegetables are tender.
  9. Discard the bay leaves.
  10. In a small bowl combine the parsley, salt and remaining flour, basil, thyme and garlic powder.
  11. Add cold water to this mixture and stir till smooth.
  12. Stir this mixture into the stew.
  13. Bring stew to a boil and stir and cook for 2 more minutes
