Chicken Turnovers With Mushroom Sauce Recipe
CHICKEN TURNOVERS WITH MUSHROOM SAUCE This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Crawford Estate in Quinlan, Texas in 1982.

Ingredients
  • Pastry for 2 layer pie
  • 3 cups well seasoned minced canned chicken
  • 1/2 pound mushrooms sliced lengthwise
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Flour
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1-1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions
  1. Divide dough in 6 squares.
  2. Put 1/2 cup chicken in center of each pastry square.
  3. Moisten edges of pastry slightly with water then fold pastry over chicken to form triangles.
  4. Seal edges by pressing with floured fork then prick tops with fork.
  5. Place on baking sheet and bake at 450 for 10 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to 350 and continue baking 20 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile cook mushrooms in butter for 4 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with flour stirring until well blended.
  9. Add liquid gradually then season and cook until thickened stirring constantly.
  10. Serve with turnovers.
