Shepherds Pie Cottage Pie UK Recipe

Ingredients
  • RUSSIAN DRESSING:
  • 2 T. Sugar
  • 1-1/2 T. Water
  • 3/4 tsp. Celery Seed
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Paprika
  • 4 tsp. Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp. Worchestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Vinegar
  • 1/2 c. salad oil (optional)
  • 1/2c. Ketchup
  • 2 T. Minced Onions
  • MEAT
  • 1-1/2 lbs. Ground Beef
  • 1/2 c. Chopped Onions
  • 1/4 c. Russian Dressing (see instructions below)
  • 1 T. Worchestershire Sauce
  • POTATOES/CALIFLOWER
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Pepper
  • 8 Potatoes peeled, boiled, and mashed OR
  • 3 califlower crowns boiled and pureed
  • 1/2 c. Heavy Cream
  • 1/4 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 T. butter
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • VEGETABLES
  • 1 (16 oz.) Bag Mixed Vegetables (see cooking instructions on bag)

Directions
  1. RUSSIAN DRESSING:
  2. COOK sugar and water until mixture spins a thread. Mix remaining ingredients into sugar-water syrup. Chill (optional).
  3. DISH:
  4. BROWN and scramble ground beef in a large pot. Add onions, Russian dressing, Worchestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Simmer for ten minutes.
  5. BEAT eggs, cream, butter and garlic powder into mashed potatoes (or pureed califlower)
  6. PUT meat mixture into a 9 X 13 casserole dish, add cooked vegetables next, then top with potatoes (or califlower). Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake at 350 degrees until topping is puffed and browned, about 25 to 35 minutes.
