How to make it

  • In a large bowl combine shrimp, gingerroot, coriander, five-spice powder, paprika, cumin, and turmeric. Cover, let stand at room temperature while preparing rice.
  • In a large saucepan heat margarine or butter and oil till margarine or butter is melted.
  • Add onion, garlic, and chili pepper. Cook till onion is tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add rice and chicken broth. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 10 minutes or till rice is nearly done.
  • Stir in shrimp mixture. Return to boiling; reduce heat. Cook, covered, about 5 minutes more or till shrimp turn pink and rice is tender.
  • To serve, spoon onto a serving platter. Garnish with green onions and cilantro, if desired.

    anything with fresh ginger root is good and good for you, i add it to just about everything, this shld. be quite tasty with all the spices am going to make it this wk.end

    ok.. i have to try this.. i absolutely LOVE different rice dishes, but don't particularly like long grain rice. if i substitute brown basmati will that work? i know the cooking time is longer for this rice but the flavor should work well.it seems as though the rice should be a bit moist... maaybe more chicken stock added to the rice with the shrimp would work?
