BUFFALO PIE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Smith Estate in Granbury, Texas in 1987.

Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 pounds buffalo steak cubed
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 medium white onion chopped
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup diced potatoes and carrots
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 pie crust

Directions
  1. Shake cubed steak in plastic bag with flour a few cubes at a time.
  2. Brown steak and onions with garlic in heated oil until browned.
  3. Add water, herbs, Worcestershire, salt and pepper then bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer 1-1/2 hours then add potatoes and carrots and cook 45 minutes.
  5. Add peas then pour into pie pan and cover with pie crust.
  6. Flute edge cut slits in top and bake 20 minutes.
