Almost Traditional Lasagna

- 1 pound ground beef shopping list
- 1 pound pork sausage shopping list
- 2 16oz jars pasta sauce-your favorite brand(I use Prego) shopping list
- 3 cloves garlic-minced shopping list
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper shopping list
- 9 lasagna noodles-cooked and drained shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley(or 3 tablespoons fresh) shopping list
- 1 24oz tub cottage cheese shopping list
- 1 8oz carton ricotta cheese shopping list
- 1/2 cup grated parmesean cheese shopping list
- 6 slice provolone cheese shopping list
- 4 cups grated mozzarella cheese shopping list
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shopping list
How to make it
- In a large skillet,brown ground beef and sausage over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain.
- Place meat in a crock pot/slow cooker 4 quarts or larger.
- Add pasta sauce,garlic, and red pepper. Stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.
- In a large mixing bowl,combine eggs,parsley,cottage cheese,ricotta,and parmesean. In a separate bowl,combine mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
- Spread 1 cup of meat sauce onto the bottom of an ungreased 9" x 13" x 2" baking dish or a lasagna pan.
- Layer with 3 noodles,provolone cheese, 2 cups cottage cheese mixture,and 1 1/2 cups mozzarella mixture
- Continue layering with 3 noodles,2 cups meat sauce,.remaining cottage cheese mixture,1 1/2 cups mozzarella mixture.
- Top with remaining 3 noodles,remaining meat sauce,and remaining mozzarella cheese mixture. Dish will be full and heavy.
- Cover with foil. Place dish onto larger cookie sheet if desired to catch any runoff while baking.
- Bake covered at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
- Let lasagna stand for 15 minutes before cutting.
- Serve with salad and garlic bread.
- Note:
- This recipe works with your favorite homemade sauce or store-bought sauce from a jar.
