- 5 to 6 potatoes shopping list
- one onion shopping list
- 1 to 2 eggs shopping list
- salt and lots of pepper shopping list
- 3 c. flour (approximate) shopping list
- cabbage - 4 plus cups or to taste shopping list
- onion - 2 plus cups or to taste shopping list
- butter for frying cabbage and onion (lots) shopping list
How to make it
- Peel and dice potatoes
- add gradually to blender or processor
- add one onion and blend thoroughly
- transfer to a mixing bowl
- add eggs, salt and pepper
- add about 1 cup of flour at a time *
- * add only enough flour so that the dough doesn't fall off the spoon
- Stir well and pour onto a dinner plate
- Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil with salt
- hold plate in one hand and with the other hand, use a table knife to slide off little pieces of dough into the boiling water. I like pieces about 1 inch by 1/4 inch but you can make them any size you want.
- They are done when the water comes back to the boil and the dumplings are floating on top (about 3 to 4 minutes)
- Put in colander and run cold water over.
- Place in Dutch oven that can go in the oven
- Fry cabbage and diced onion in LOTS of butter for 10 to 15 minutes
- Pour over the dumplings and cover
- Bake for 1/2 hour
