How to make it

  • slice carrots and onion
  • rinse the yellow split peas
  • place all ingredients into a large pot
  • bring to the boil stirring occasionally so the peas don't stick to pot
  • then turn down heat to simmer
  • let simmer for a couple of hours
  • stir occasionally
  • take hock out and cut the meat into small pieces
  • place pieces back in pot and stir
  • let simmer for about 10 minuets
  • then server
  • or you can let it cool down and put in fridge and reheat later
