When my son is coming home from college. I always have this waiting for him. This was my Granny's recipe and I loved it growing up.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • miniature marshmallows
  • Icing Recipe below
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans

Directions
  1. In large mixing bowl
  2. combine sugar,flour,baking soda and cinnamon.
  3. Mix thoroughly
  4. Set aside
  5. In medium saucepan,combine butter,cocoa and water.
  6. Bring to a rapid boil.
  7. Pour over dry ingredients
  8. Add buttermilk,eggsand vanilla
  9. Pour into a 15-1/2x 10-1/2x1-inch pan
  10. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  11. Bake for 20 minutes
  12. Remove from oven and add enough miniature marshmallows on top to cover before adding icing,so marshmallows melt.
  13. ICING Instructions below:
  14. Melt butter
  15. add cocoa,milk,sugar,vanilla and pecans
  16. mix very well.
  17. Spread over top of marshmallow layer. Very Rich!!
