Turkey Bowtie Pasta Recipe

Turkey Bowtie Pasta Recipe
This dish is a tasty combination of ground turkey, spices, sauce and bow tie pasta. Serve with a green salad or green vegetable and garlic bread. I also suggest a semi-sweet red Merlot to compliment the meal.

Ingredients
  • 16 ozs. ( 1 pound) Bow Tie pasta
  • 1 pound fresh or precooked ground turkey
  • 2 26-27 oz jars of Ragu Robusto (preferred) or Hunt's Chunky Vegetable sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1 cup chopped Roma tomatoes
  • 2 cups sliced portabella, baby portabella mushrooms
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped fresh or dried basil
  • Marcum Garlic Powder or other preferred brand
  • Marcum Italian Seasoning or other preferred brand
  • 1/4 cup reserved pasta water

Directions
  1. Bring four quarts water to boil in a large pot. Add pasta to boiling water and stir to separate noodles frequently. Cook according to package directions until al dente. Before draining reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water, then drain and return pasta to pot to keep warm. Add a few pats of butter to pasta if desired.
  2. While pasta is cooking heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium-high. Add ground turkey to pan, season with light seasoning salt, black pepper, garlic and red pepper flakes. Crumble as turkey cooks. Drain turkey on paper towels if necessary to remove any grease and set aside.
  3. Return pan to heat and add garlic. Saute garlic until lightly browned. Add onion and mushrooms to pan continuing to saute until onion is translucent and mushrooms are tender, add red pepper flakes if using, black pepper and 1/2 teaspoon salt to pan stirring to combine.
  4. Add turkey and chopped tomatoes to pan and continue to cook until all ingredients are heated through about 3 to 4 minutes longer.
  5. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of pasta water and basil to turkey mixture. Toss everything together.
  6. Pour tomato sauce into a separate pot and season with black pepper, garlic and Marcum Italian Seasoning. Add turkey mixture to sauce, heat and stir thoroughly. Let mixture simmer.
  7. Remove from heat and pour sauce over pasta, and stir to combine the ingredients thoroughly or serve traditionally with the pasta and sauce separate.
  8. Sprinkle with Parmesan and enjoy!
  9. *For smaller portions use 1/2 pound of ground turkey and one jar/can of sauce. Adjust other ingredients as needed.
