Layered salad with beet and herring

- 10 oz salted or smoked herring fillets, finely chopped shopping list
- 2 medium potatoes, cooked and shredded shopping list
- 2 medium carrots, cooked and shredded shopping list
- 1 large (10-12 oz) beet, cooked and shredded shopping list
- 1 medium Granny Smith apple, peeled and shredded shopping list
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 1 egg, hard-boiled and shredded shopping list
- ¼ cup mayonnaise shopping list
- ¼ cup sour cream shopping list
- parsley and dill for garnish shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
How to make it
- To make sauce, combine mayonnaise with sour cream and mix well. Stir in salt and pepper (optional).
- Place potatoes in an even layer in the bottom of a large glass bowl. Spread one tablespoon of sauce over potatoes.
- Place the herring layer. Cover with chopped onion.
- Then place the layer of carrots and layer of apples, spread one tablespoon of sauce over each of them.
- Finish with the beet layer, generously covered with sauce.
- Top with shredded egg. Garnish with chopped parsley and dill.

it's great! love the contrast between the raw onions and the green apple! i made this about 4 times and tonight is my 5th! complex enough to be interesting, simple enough to be easy to make! yummy!
