Ingredients
  • ::CAKE::
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 ounces red food coloring
  • 1 cup buttermild
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ::ICING::
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 1/2 cube margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Shaved coconut ((optional))

Directions
  1. Cream crisco and sugar
  2. Add eggs, vanilla and salt
  3. Stir in buttermilk
  4. Sift together flour, cocoa, and salt and add to the batter
  5. Mix vinegar and baking soda together and fold into the batter
  6. Pour into three 9" greased and floured cake pans
  7. Bake at 300* for 30 minutes
  8. Remove from oven and let cool
  9. While cake is cooling, cook milk, salt and flour until it thickens. Set aside to cool
  10. Beat crisco, sugar, margarine, and vanilla until fluffy. Blend with the first mix when cool
  11. Spread between the layers, down the sides, and across the top
  12. Sprinkle coconut over the whole cake =OPTIONAL=
