turkey gravy

- 1/2 cup of shortening or reserved drippings shopping list
- 1/4 cup flour shopping list
- 1 qt milk or water or turkey or chicken broth shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
How to make it
- put the drippings in a large heavy skillet
- the skillet should be hot already
- heat till hot...using low heat
- add the flour very slowly, stirring constantly
- cook low heat till it turns brown...keep stiring
- start adding your liquid,,,,slowly and constantly stir
- untill thick,,
- when the flour and drippings are cookingyou can let this get light or dark brown in color BEFORE adding the milk, water or broth
- go slow and stir to incorporate so no lumps come.
- once all is combined, turn up heata little to a rolling boil
- and stir often for about 5 minutes, to cook the flour well
