COCOA STICKS This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Marlin Estate in Heath, Texas in 1998.

Ingredients
  • 6 tablespoonfuls butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 teaspoonfuls cocoa
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1-1/2 cups sifted pastry flour

Directions
  1. Cream butter until soft then add sugar gradually and beat well.
  2. Add egg, milk and vanilla then mix thoroughly.
  3. Sift cocoa, baking powder and a pinch of salt with one-half cup of the flour.
  4. Stir this into the mixture first then use the remainder of the flour to make a firm dough.
  5. Set on the ice to harden then sprinkle board with cocoa and a little sugar.
  6. Use small pieces of the dough at a time and toss it over the board to prevent sticking.
  7. Roll out thin then cut in strips about 1/2" wide and 3” long.
  8. Place closely in pan and bake in moderately hot oven three or four minutes.
