ALMOST CANDY BARS This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Nixon Estate in Canton, Texas in 1993.

Ingredients
  • Canola cooking spray
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1 package moist supreme devil’s food cake mix
  • 1/8 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup butterscotch chips
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup coconut sweetened
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees then coat a rectangular metal baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. Heat butter in microwave in 1 cup glass measure on lowest setting just until melted.
  3. Stir sour cream and syrup into the glass measure with melted butter and mix until smooth.
  4. Put cake mix in mixing bowl then drizzle butter mixture over top and beat on low 30 seconds.
  5. Press evenly in bottom of prepared pan.
  6. Sprinkle the top of crust evenly with butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, coconut and nuts.
  7. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over all ingredients.
  8. Bake until light golden brown about 30 minutes then cool completely and cut into bars.
