How to make it

  • Combine chocolate and butter in top pan of a double boiler over simmering water.
  • Melt stirring occasionally then remove pan from heat and stir in sugar.
  • Beat in eggs 1 at a time then stir in salt and flour then add vanilla and mix well.
  • Preheat oven to 350 then spread batter in greased rectangular pan and bake 25 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cool completely.
  • Carefully turn pan upside down so brownies are on a clean work surface.
  • Trim off browned edges then cut brownies into three slabs.
  • Place 1 layer in square pan and spread 3 cups ice cream over top.
  • Place another brownie layer on top and press down then spread with remaining ice cream.
  • Top with third brownie layer and press down then cover pan with foil and freeze at least 2 hours.
  • To serve run a knife around edges of pan and turn ice cream loaf onto chilled cutting board.
  • Work fast so ice cream does not melt then slice and serve.
