Special French Bread Recipe
SPECIAL FRENCH BREAD This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Lambert Estate in Fort Worth, Texas in 2001.

Ingredients
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1/2 medium white onion chopped
  • 3/4 stick butter
  • 2 tablespoons spicy mustard
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 12 slices smoked thick cut bacon
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese

Directions
  1. Cut bread lengthwise into 3 layers then cook bacon until done but not crisp then set aside.
  2. Sauté onion in butter until clear then remove from heat and add mustard and seeds then stir.
  3. On bottom layer of bread thinly spread on mustard mixture then put on 6 slices of bacon.
  4. Top with 2 slices of Swiss cheese and grated mozzarella.
  5. Repeat on next layer saving enough mustard mixture to spread thinly on top slice.
  6. Sprinkle with more poppy seeds then wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
  7. Slice and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
