CHESS SQUARES This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Webb Estate in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1987.

Ingredients
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 stick butter softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 box powdered sugar

Directions
  1. In mixing bowl combine cake mix, pecans, butter, egg and vanilla.
  2. Mix well using a wooden spoon.
  3. Grease and flour a rectangular pan then spread mixture even in pan and set aside.
  4. Mix cream cheese and eggs until smooth then add sugar and pour over cake mixture.
  5. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes then cook and cut into squares.
