Walnut Rolled Strudel Recipe
WALNUT ROLLED STRUDEL This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Camp Estate in Fort Worth, Texas in 1989.

Ingredients
  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 cakes yeast regular or dry
  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Walnut filling:
  • 1 pound finely ground walnuts
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup boiled milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Directions
  1. Crumble yeast in bowl then add water and sugar stirring until mixture liquefies.
  2. Blend flour and butter with wire pastry blender and mix well.
  3. Mix in eggs, salt and yeast then mix until dough is smooth and leaves side of bowl clean.
  4. Do not let rise then divide into four portions and roll each out in a rectangular shape.
  5. Spread with filling and roll up like jelly roll.
  6. Prick roll with toothpick on top and sides to keep roll from splitting while baking.
  7. Place in greased baking pans and bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
  8. Mix filling in bowl using 3/4 cup boiled milk.
  9. If not at spreading consistency use remaining milk.
