DOWN HOME MEATLOAF This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Rodgers in Longview, Texas in 1982.

Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground sirloin
  • 3/4 cup freshly crumbled saltine cracker crumbs
  • 2 large eggs well beaten
  • 1/4 cup large red onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup spicy vegetable juice
  • 8 ounces chili sauce

Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients except tomato sauce in a mixing bowl and blend thoroughly.
  2. Pack firmly into a well greased loaf tin then smooth top with spatula.
  3. Pour on chili sauce then bake at 350 for 1 hour then serve hot.
