How to make it

  • Cream the shortening and butter.
  • Gradually add the sugar, beating well at medium speed with an electric blender.
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa together.
  • Add to the creamed mixture alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just blended after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla.
  • Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10 inch bunt pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for one hour and 15 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool in the pan 10-15 minutes, remove from the pan and let cool completely on a wire rack.
