How to make it

  • Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening.
  • Add just enough water to hold together.
  • Roll into a circle 1/8 inch thick. Cut into wedges; let rise for 5 minutes.
  • Fry in deep fat till puffy. Drain on absorbent paper.
  • Serve warm with honey drizzled over the top.
  • Can dust with powdered sugar if desired.

    A Mexican restaurant in Colorado, they would open a bubble on the sopapilla and squeeze some honey right inside. Thanks for recipe brings good memories back.
