From a recipe book I got at a yard sale. It was one put together by members of a church and seems to be dated 1976/77. Guess on servings and prep time.

Ingredients
  • 1C sugar
  • 1Tbsp butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 1 (1oz) pkg pitted dates
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1C boiling water
  • 1 1/2 C flour
  • 1 1/2C chopped nuts

Directions
  1. Cream together the butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg and set aside.
  3. Cut dates in small pieces and add soda and water to the dates. Mix.
  4. Add to butter/sugar/egg mixture.
  5. Add flour and vanilla and nuts.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Pour into a well greased 2X10 inch tube pan.
  8. Bake at 375F.
  9. No baking time was given. I would guess 45-70 minutes.
